The Indian Election Commission has announced the Lok Sabha Elections schedule today i.e. on 10/3/2019. The elections will be held for the 543 Lok Sabha (MP) Constituencies in seven phases to form the 17th Lok Sabha. The first Phase of Parliament Elections will be held on 11th April 2019 while the seventh and the last Phase of Parliament Elections will be held on 19th May 2019. 2019 Lok Sabha Elections Highlights:

17th Lok Sabha General Elections 2019 Schedule:

According to our Constitution there are 545 Lok Sabha seats, out of these 545 Lok Sabha seats 543 Lok Sabha seats are elected by us through the General Election whereas the remaining 2 Lok Sabha seats are nominated by the President of India which are reserved for Anglo Indians.

Along with the Lok Sabha Elections the ECI has announced Legislative Assembly Elections in four States they are Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim.

2019 General Elections:

The 2019 General Elections are going to be held in the months of April or May 2019. This General election is going to be held toconstitute the 17th Lok Sabha. These 2019 General elections will be held for all the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country. To form the Government one has to win 272 seats out of 543 seats.

Election Commission of India:

The Election Commission of India was formed on 25th February in the year 1950 according to the Article 324 of the Indian Constitution. The Election Commission of India is a self governing constitutional authority which governs the election mechanism in India. Being one of the few autonomous bodies in India, the election commission of India has full rights to conduct the elections in appropriate manner. The commission is responsible for conducting the elections of the President of India, Vice-President of India, Parliament, Legislative Assemblies of States (Vidhan Sabah), and Legislative Councils. The Head quarters of the election commission is in New Delhi, and the first Chief Election Commissioner of India is Sukamar Sen. the Current and the 23rd Chief Election Commissioner of India is Sh. Sunil Arora where as the election commissioner of India is Sh. Ashok Lavasa.

2014 General Elections:

The last election was held in the year 2014. The main opponents for the 2014 General elections were 2 groups they are UPA and NDA. UPA – United Progressive Alliance, UPA is lead by the Indian National Congress party. NDA – National Democratic Alliance, NDA is lead by the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the last election BJP (NDA) won and formed the 16th Lok Sabah.

The total number of Lok Sabha constituencies in India is 543.Out of these 543 constituencies the 29 states of India represents 530 constituencies whereas the Union Territories represents 13 constituencies and the 2 Anglo Indians seats are nominated by the President of India.
