Water Purifiers:

Water purifier or a water filter is an instrument which purifies the water and makes the water feasible for drinking. Some of the purifiers purifies the water by removing the impurities, bacteria, and viruses from the water. Some of them converts hard water to soft water by using reverse osmosis process by removing the unwanted ions, molecules and larger particles. Depending on the type of water and the purification or conversion process there are different type of water purifiers available in todays market. So choose wisely which purifier is suitable for your home or office.


Water is the one of the 5 elements of nature, and it is the most important element for a human body because our body is made up of 75-78% water and our planet comprises almost ¾  of water.

Types of Water Available:

4 types of water are available on earth they are surface water, Ground Water, Waste water & Storm Water.

In this context we can classify these available type of water into 2 types they are Soft Water and Hard water.

What is Soft Water?

Soft water is the surface water that we drink daily, soft water naturally occurs through rains and it contains Calcium & Magnesium ions in low concentrations.

What is Hard Water?

When compared to soft water, hard water has high concentrations of mineral content. Hard water contains the Calcium and Magnesium Carbonates, Bicarbonates, and sulphates.

How Rain Water or Soft water is Converted to Hard Water?

Soft water becomes hard water when the soft water permeate through limestone, gypsum etc.

What is Osmosis?

Osmosis is a process where the moment of a solvent across a semi permeable membrane towards a higher concentration of a solute.

Coming to water, the soft water when it passes through the limestone, gypsum etc spontaneously towards the higher concentrations then the soft water becomes hard water and the process is called osmosis.

What is RO or Reverse Osmosis ?

The full form of RO is Reverse Osmosis, and it is the process of purification of water through a partially permeable membrane to remove the unwanted ions, molecules and larger particles. It is the absolute reverse process for Osmosis, and converting the hard water to soft water .

How Hard water is converted to Soft Water by using RO Process?

The osmosis process occurs naturally, and the rain water or soft water becomes hard naturally when it pass through the limestone, gypsum etc. RO is reverse to the Osmosis process, RO is a process where the hard water is converted to the soft water by passing the hard water through a partially permeable membrane.

By the reverse Osmosis process, hard water is converted to soft water by removing the total dissolved solids.

What is TDS?

The full form of TDS is Total Dissolved Solids, basically some organic and inorganic substances dissolve in water, TDS is defined as the measure of the dissolved solids in water. These total dissolved solids consists of Inorganic salts like Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Bicarbonates, Chlorides, and Sulphates. Apart from the Inorganic slats a small amount of organic substances also dissolved in water.

So TDS is the measure of the total dissolved solids in water these dissolved solids refer to both organic & Inorganic substances.

Water TDS Values Choosing the RO, UV, UF depending on TDS:

  • TDS from 100 ppm to 300 ppm – Very Good Water – UV & UF are Feasible
  • TDS from 300 ppm to 500 ppm – Good Water – UV & UF are Feasible
  • TDS from 500 ppm to 2000 ppm – Bad Water – RO is feasible
  • TDS from 0 ppm to 100 ppm – very Bad Water
