What’s new with iOS and iPad OS 14.5?

  • Apple has released latest updates for its iOS on phones, iPads, watches as well as televisions with an operating system version of 14.5 offering advancements to its compatible devices.
  • Here are the latest trivia about IOS 14.5 and iPad 14.5:
  • It brings the ability to unlock iPhone using an Apple Watch even while wearing a face mask.
  • Siri will speak either in a female or a male voice, the choice shall be up on of the user.
  • Introduction to App Tracking Transparency (ATT) that lets users control the activity performed across other apps and websites for offering personalized ads and sharing data with third parties.
  • Users can now ask Siri to make a Group FaceTime call to any particular group in messaging applications.  
  • Update made on Siri, the voice assistant to announce any general or emergency incoming call or messages. It will also make an emergency contact call if the iPhone user is unable to make a call physically.
  • New privacy setting introduced for disabling third party application companies from tracking your activity across your device or websites. All you have to do is go to the Setting> Privacy Tracking and turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track.
  • New emoji characters including face exhaling, face with spiral eyes, face in clouds, hearts on fire, mending heart, and woman with a beard, introduced in this new IOS. The latest update also allows users to report incidents such as an accident, hazard, or a speed camera in Apple Maps.
  • iOS 14.5 brings support for AirTag and includes redesigned Podcasts that both Apple introduced last week. It shall allow users to easily find, download, and manage their magazine and newspaper issues.
  • On the launch of the new iOS 14.5, Apple Music also gets an update with the option to let users share their favourite lyrics using Messages, Facebook, and Instagram Stories.
  • Although the above given trivia are applicable to both IOS and iPadOS 14.5, but on a special note to iPadOS, there includes a supportive Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controller and Sony PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller.

  • Deleted messages may still appear in Spotlight search

  • iCloud Tabs may not appear in Safari
  • iCloud Keychain could be prevented from turning off
  • Reminders created via Siri may be unintentionally set for early morning hours
  • Optimization to reduce the appearance of a dim glow that may appear at reduced brightness levels with black backgrounds on iPhone 12 models
  • AirPods audio routing to incorrect device for Automatic Switching
  • AirPods Automatic Switching notifications might be missing or duplicated
  • Talking about last about downloading or updating the IOS and iPadOS 14.5, they can be downloaded on any iPhone and iPad respectively, but a user must make sure his/ her device is compatible to the touch model of the iOS 14 or 14.5 only.  
  • When the compatibility is checked to prove it eligible, user can download the updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update from your device.
