March 29th 2021 – Xiaomi launched its new range of top of the line smartphones along with the announcement of Mi Smart Band 6. Xiaomi announced 3 new smartphones – Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G. These smartphones are new additions to the Mi 11 launched by Xiaomi in December 2020.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is the top of the line flagship phone from Xiaomi to take on the likes of Samsung S21 & Apple iPhone 12. The Mi 11 Ultra comes with a 6.81 inch AMOLED Display that supports HDR10+ & has a brightness of 900 nits standard while peak brightness maxes out at 1700 nits. The display panel can reproduce over 1 billion colours accurately, calibrated to DCI-P3 colour space, supports Dolby Vision, has a 120 Hz non-adaptive refresh rate & 480 Hz touch sampling rate. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The screen has a 1440×3200 resolution with 512 ppi density & 20:9 aspect ratio. The Mi 11 Ultra also has a 1.1 inch AMOLED display on the rear within the camera housing – it can display phone status information, weather, incoming calls/messages, notifications, act as a viewfinder for taking selfies & also has an always-on mode.
The phone comes with a stereo speaker setup tuned by Harmam Kardon & Hi-Res audio certification. It misses out on a 3.5mm headphone jack, but comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.2, dual-sim 5G support, WiFi 6E, NFC & an IR Blaster. The Mi 11 Ultra is IP68 dust & water resitant rated.
The processor duties are handled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 which has 8 processing cores & a built-in Adreno 660 GPU. The phone runs MIUI 12.5 on top of Android 11, there are 2 RAM options – 8GB & 12GB. While the 8 GB RAM option is only available with 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, the 12GB variant has 2 options of either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The Mi 11 Ultra comes equipped with 3 cameras at the rear – a 50MP main camera with Samsung GN2 sensor – one of the largest sensors on a smartphone & is equipped with OIS, PDAF & laser autofocus; the second lens is a 48MP telephoto camera with periscope lens with PDAF, OIS & 5x optical zoom; the third camera is a 48MP ultrawide shooter, PDAF with 128 degree vie lens. The 2 48MP cameras utilize Sony’s IMX586 sensors. The front camera is a 20MP wide camera for selfies.
Xiaomi’s Mi 11 Ultra has an under display fingerprint sensor. It has a non-removable 5000mAh battery that supports both wired & wireless fast charging up to 67W and can charge to 100% in 36 to 39 minutes (as advertised), it also supports reverse wireless charging at 10W. The phone will be available in 2 colours – Ceramic White & Ceramic Black.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is almost identical to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra in specs but there are a few major differences. The design of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is based on the Xiaomi Mi 11 and it misses out on the 1.1 inch AMOLED display on the rear that is present on the Mi 11 Ultra. The other major differences are in the camera department – the primary camera is the same 50MP Samsung GN2 sensor camera as in the Mi 11 Ultra with OIS, the second camera is a 13MP ultrawide angle with f/2.4 lens & 123 degree view angle & the third camera is a 8 MP tele-macro camera with a f/3.4 lens capable of 50x digital zoom, 5x optical zoom equipped with OIS. The front camera is the same 20MP shooter that is present in the Mi 11 Pro.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G is a smaller, thinner & lighter smartphone than its 2 other Mi 11 siblings above. The Xiaomi Mi Lite 11 5G comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G chipset & Adreno 642 GPU & UFS 2.2 storage. The Mi 11 Lite 5G will be running MIUI 12 on top of Android 11; it will be available in 3 variants – 6GB RAM + 128 GB storage, 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256 GB storage.
Mi 11 Lite 5G utilizes a 6.55 inch AMOLED screen with 90 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, HDR 10+ support, DCI-P3 colour calibration & peak brightness of 900 nits. The screen has 20:9 aspect ratio & resolution of 1080×2400 pixels. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The phone also has a glass back.
The design of the Mi 11 Lite 5G is similar to the Mi 11 & Mi 11 Pro but it has a smaller form factor. It has 3 rear cameras – a 64MP primary camera, a 8MP ultra-wide camera & a 5MP tele-macro camera. A 20MP front camera is present for selfie requirements.
The Mi Lite 5G has an impressive 4520mAh battery that supports fast charging upto 33W. The smartphone has a dual speaker stereo setup, side mounted fingerprint sensor, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type C & LiquidCool Technology for cooling. It has a hybrid SIM slot with space for 2 SIMs or one SIM + expandable storage. Xiaomi again omits the 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone will be available in 3 colours – Truffle Black, Mint Green & Citrus Yellow.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is expected to arrive in India sometime between June & July 2021 with the price expected to fall between Rs. 65,000 and Rs. 78,000
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is also expected at the same time as the Ultra and is expected to cost between Rs. 55,500 & go up to Rs. 64,000
The Xiaomo Mi 11 5G is expected to cost around Rs 25,000 to Rs 29,000 when it arrives in India.
